ABSTRACT: Mathematical Modeling, when introduced into the school environment from the early years of elementary school, can engage children in investigative processes, allowing them to explore a topic of interest while simultaneously constructing and learning mathematical concepts. The literature suggests that the inherent characteristics of Mathematical Modeling can favor the meaningful learning of mathematical concepts. Therefore, this research proposes to investigate: What articulations between denotative and connotative meanings are manifested by teachers in a formative space on Mathematical Modeling? These meanings are based on the Theory of Meaningful Learning. According to Ausubel, meanings are present in the cognitive structure of the individual and can be denotative (shared and contextually accepted) and connotative (idiosyncratic and personal). This qualitative research arises from the researcher's concerns, based on her practical and academic experience. To this end, Mathematical Modeling was used as a reference, exploring the importance of teacher training for its implementation in the classroom, adopting the conception of Maria Salett Biembengut, with a focus on the specificities of the Early Years of Elementary School. The data analysis process will be multifaceted. To analyze the works included in the systematic review, which sought to identify research carried out in the context of mathematics teaching in the early years of elementary school, involving the Theory of Meaningful Learning, Discursive Textual Analysis was used. The data produced through the techniques and instruments used in the formative space, namely, field notes, questionnaires, audio and video recordings, WhatsApp messages, and written records from teachers, will be analyzed in light of the Theory of Meaningful Learning, seeking to achieve the objectives proposed by this research. This study presents a description and analysis of three moments in the formative space: (1) Before learning about Mathematical Modeling; (2) During the development of a Mathematical Modeling activity, learning its characteristics; (3) When planning and developing a Mathematical Modeling activity in the formative space. In this process, articulations of denotative and connotative meanings of mathematical concepts mobilized in the development of the activities emerged, as well as the characteristics of Mathematical Modeling, provided through experience reports, moments of collective planning, and discussions and analysis of the activities planned and developed in the formative space aimed at the Early Years. Thus, the evidence of these articulations of denotative and connotative meanings indicates that teachers can, to a certain extent, contribute to the meaningful learning of the representational, conceptual, and propositional type of their students in their pedagogical practices.
