Nicolau de Cusa e a Douta ignorância : respostas à crise da concepção cristã de mundo no século XV

Abstract

RESUMO: Nesta tese, vinculada à linha de pesquisa em História da Educação, Políticas e Práticas Pedagógicas revivemos os esforços investigativos de Nicolau de Cusa, autor do século XV, período de transição entre a Idade Média e o Renascimento. Seu pensamento abriu caminhos para a modernidade, mas sem continuidade acabou sendo esquecido. Além de conhecimento sobre o movimento histórico, buscamos redimensionar o pensamento do autor no contexto em que vivemos, por considerá-lo fecundo e atual para a reflexão e (re)organização da vida em sociedade. Elegemos como objeto de estudo a concepção cristã de mundo e a sua (re)fundamentação proposta por Nicolau de Cusa no contexto das transformações do século XV. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida a partir do seguinte problema: de que maneira a obra A Douta Ignorância expressa a crise da concepção cristã de mundo e como ela se relaciona com a formação humana e o bem comum necessários aos novos tempos que se delineavam? Como hipótese consideramos que a crítica de Cusa à escolástica aristotélica e a nova filosofia lapidada na obra, visavam salvaguardar a cosmovisão cristã, buscando resgatar e atualizar princípios que se encontravam em decadência após séculos de disputas pelo poder. Com o objetivo geral de identificar a relação entre a obra A Douta Ignorância e a crise do pensamento cristão, observando a centralidade da educação para o desenvolvimento social, realizamos o seguinte percurso de investigação: a) análise do desenvolvimento e crise da concepção cristã sob a ótica das relações de poder; b) compreensão do papel da fé e da razão nesse processo; c) exame da obra considerando as dimensões, crítica, reconstrutiva e ético-política da filosofia cusana como respostas à crise da concepção cristã de mundo no século XV. A pesquisa está fundamentada sobre os pressupostos teórico-metodológicos da Escola dos Annales, utilizando os conceitos de mentalidade e longa duração desenvolvidos por Lucien Febvre, Marc Bloch e Fernand Braudel. Conclui-se, que nossa pesquisa é reveladora do compromisso de Nicolau de Cusa com a (re)fundamentação da cristandade. E, apesar dos embates que o autor enfrentou, consideramos que seu pensamento obteve um sucesso no seu tempo sobre a proteção dos mistérios cristãos mediante a conciliação entre fé e razão, mas fracassou à longo prazo ao preparar o terreno mental que levaria à separação entre ciência e fé.

ABSTRACT: In this thesis, linked to the research line of History of Education, Policies, and Pedagogical Practices, we revive the investigative efforts of Nicholas of Cusa, a 15th-century author from the transition period between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. His thought paved the way for modernity, yet, lacking continuity, it ended up forgotten. In addition to knowledge regarding the historical movement, we seek to re-evaluate the author's thought within our current context, considering it fertile and relevant for the reflection and (re)organization of life in society. We have chosen as our object of study the Christian worldview and its (re)grounding as proposed by Nicholas of Cusa amidst the transformations of the 15th century. This research was developed based on the following problem: in what way does the work On Learned Ignorance express the crisis of the Christian worldview, and how does it relate to the human formation and the common good necessary for the new times that were emerging? As a hypothesis, we consider that Cusa's critique of Aristotelian Scholasticism and the new philosophy refined in his work aimed to safeguard the Christian worldview, seeking to rescue and update principles that were in decline after centuries of power struggles. With the general objective of identifying the relationship between the work On Learned Ignorance and the crisis of Christian thought, observing the centrality of education for social development, we conducted the following investigative path: a) analysis of the development and crisis of the Christian conception from the perspective of power relations; b) understanding the role of faith and reason in this process; c) examination of the work considering the critical, reconstructive, and ethico-political dimensions of Cusan philosophy as responses to the crisis of the Christian worldview in the 15th century. The research is grounded in the theoretical-methodological assumptions of the Annales School, utilizing the concepts of mentality and longue durée developed by Lucien Febvre, Marc Bloch, and Fernand Braudel. It is concluded that our research reveals Nicholas of Cusa's commitment to the (re)grounding of Christendom. Despite the conflicts the author faced, we consider that his thought achieved success in its time by protecting Christian mysteries through the reconciliation of faith and reason, but failed in the long term by preparing the mental ground that would lead to the separation between science and faith.
