Abstract: This thesis investigates the process of reconfiguration of the verbs lacrar, biscoitar, sabonetar, pipocar, pistolar and pesquisador in contemporary Brazilian Portuguese, applying Castilho's Multisystemic Approach (2016) in dialogue with studies of Linguistic Beliefs and Attitudes (Lambert, 1967; López Morales, 2004; Aguilera, 2008; Botassini, 2015). The research is divided into two parts: the first part analyzes tweets collected from 2021 to 2025, examining the reconfiguration of verbs and their variants, considering the processes of semanticization, lexicalization, discursivization and grammaticalization. The second part involves interviews with 18 participants of different gender identities/sexual orientations (Cisgender Heterosexual Male - CHM; Cisgender Heterosexual Female - CHF; Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Aromantic/Agender, Pan/Poly, Non-binary and more - LGBTQIAPN+) and age groups (18-25 years old; 30-40 years old; 55-65 years old). These interviews were conducted using open- and closed-ended questionnaires, seeking to investigate linguistic beliefs and attitudes related to the use of verbs. All hypotheses put forward for this thesis were confirmed. The verbs lacrar, biscoitar, sabonetar, pipocar, pistolar and acelerar have undergone a process of reconfiguration motivated by factors internal and external to the language, especially driven by social networks, which have contributed to the dissemination and popularization of new meanings and uses. This change is multisystemic, bringing new lexical, grammatical, discursive and semantic values to the uses of these verbs, demonstrating the complexity and dynamism of the language in constant transformation. Perceptions about these uses vary significantly: some groups consider them creative, innovative and part of their own linguistic identity, while others see them as incorrect or inappropriate, reflecting divergent beliefs and attitudes towards the speakers who employ them. The use of these verbs is more frequent among the Cisgender Heterosexual Female (CHF) and LGBTQIAPN+ groups, especially among young people (aged 18 to 25), evidencing greater acceptance and appropriation of these linguistic forms by these groups. On the other hand, the Cisgender Heterosexual Male (CHM) group, especially in the 30-40 and 55-65 age groups, tends to have a more stereotypical view of these verbs and their users, revealing a greater resistance to these linguistic innovations and a tendency to associate them negatively with marginalized groups. These results corroborate the hypothesis that the uses of these verbs reflect social, cultural and ideological dynamics that permeate the use of language in the digital environment and their repercussions on the construction of identities and stereotypes. |
