Cultura e religião : tramas e narrativas do barroco mineiro

Abstract

Resumo: O objetivo principal da pesquisa que segue é identificar e analisar a participação da religião católica na formação cultural e social da capitania de Minas Gerais no século XVIII, mostrando o papel que o sagrado exerce em coletividade, por meio da Igreja, enquanto instituição social e formadora de normas e valores, o que acabou por gerar o barroco mineiro, uma das maiores expressões da arte e da cultura, não só no Brasil, mas no mundo. Neste contexto, a pesquisa busca analisar a influência religiosa exercida pela Igreja Católica, no processo de identificação da sociedade mineira com um catolicismo mais popular, principalmente durante o século XVIII, período do auge do movimento Barroco nas Minas Gerais e época de grande efervescência na referida capitania, que teve seu processo civilizador formado pelas mais diferentes classes sociais, fato ocorrido devido, principalmente, à descoberta do ouro. Para a realização da pesquisa recorreu-se à pesquisa bibliográfica em artigos, livros, teses e dissertações que analisam a temática barroca e religiosa. Também foram feitas pesquisas sobre o tema em sites e revistas eletrônicas pertencentes a instituições consagradas e que se voltam para o assunto em pauta. Como parâmetro para compreender a formação de Minas Gerais, foi analisado, como inspiração teórica, Norbert Elias, em suas concepções acerca do processo civilizador. Foi de grande importância também minha viagem até a região de Ouro Preto, onde é possível encontrar as marcas deixadas por toda a efervescência da religião católica no século XVIII

Abstract: The main objective of the research that follows is to identify and analyze the participation of the Catholic religion in the cultural and social formation of the captaincy of Minas Gerais in the eighteenth century, showing the role that the sacred plays collectively, through the Church, as a social and formative institution. of norms and values, which eventually generated the baroque mineiro, one of the greatest expressions of art and culture, not only in Brazil, but in the world. In this context, the research seeks to analyze the religious influence exerted by the Catholic Church, in the process of identifying mining society with a more popular Catholicism, especially during the eighteenth century, the period of the Baroque movement in Minas Gerais and the time of great effervescence in the referred captaincy, which had its civilizing process formed by the most different social classes, a fact that occurred mainly due to the discovery of gold. To carry out the research we resorted to bibliographic research in articles, books, theses and dissertations that analyze the Baroque and religious theme. Research has also been done on websites and electronic magazines belonging to established institutions that focus on the subject at hand. As a parameter to understand the formation of Minas Gerais, Norbert Elias was analyzed as a theoretical inspiration in his conceptions about the civilizing process. It was also of great importance my trip to the region of Ouro Preto, where it is possible to find the marks left by all the effervescence of the catholic religion in the eighteenth century
