Reis, Judeus e Marranos : a construção do messianismo português (Séculos XV ao XVII)

Abstract

Resumo: Essa pesquisa de doutoramento que foi pensada a partir das discussões da obra "Mil Anos de Felicidade: A História do Paraíso" do historiador francês Jean Delumeau no Laboratório de Estudos do Império Português (LEIP/UEM), tem por objetivo traçar a construção do messianismo em Portugal entre os anos finais do século XIV e as primeiras décadas do século XVII. Visou-se compreender como o messianismo régio, notadamente presente na Casa dinástica de Avis e o messianismo judaico, se amalgamaram e deram origem ao sebastianismo, expressão áurea do messianismo português. Para melhor compreensão, dividimos o trabalho em seis capítulos, a saber: A construção do messianismo régio português; D. Manuel e o ápice do messianismo régio; O messianismo judaico; David Reubeni e a efervescência messiânica; Messianismo e marranismo e O Sebastianismo. A evolução da pesquisa contou, em grande medida, com fontes coletadas nos arquivos digitais da Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal e do Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo, além de documentos presentes em obras sobre a temática. A análise das fontes e da bibliografia embasaram o desdobramento da investigação que pontoou as origens medievais do messianismo régio até sua manifestação em Portugal. Buscou-se explicitar também as expectativas do futuro glorioso encarnadas em D. Manuel I; as interpretações cabalísticas sobre a vinda do Messias e o batismo forçado do judeus que os transformaram em cristãosnovos. O fervor messiânico causado pela presença do embaixador judeu David Reubeni e as Trovas do Bandarra que desencadearam a integração de expectativas régias e judaicas, também são contempladas no decorrer deste trabalho. Em suma as contribuições desta pesquisa apontam para a compreensão do messianismo como parte de uma longa tradição política e religiosa presente no reino lusitano

Abstract: This PhD research that was thought from the discussions of the work "A Thousand Years of Happiness: The History of Paradise" by French historian Jean Delumeau in the Laboratory os Studies of the Portuguese Empire from Maringá State University, aims to trace the constrution of messianism in Portugal between the late 14th century and the first decades of the 17th century. It was aimed to understand how the regal messianism, notably present in the dynastic House of Avis and the Jewish Messianism, were amalgamated and gave origin to the Sebastianism, golden expression of the Portuguese Messianism. For better understanding, we divided the work into six chapters, namely: The construction of Portuguese regal messianism; D. Manuel and the apex of royal messianism; Jewish messianism; David Reubeni and the Messianic effervescence; Messianism and Marranism and Sebastianism. The evolution of the research relied to a great extent on sources collected in the digital archives of the National Library of Portugal and the National Archive of Torre do Tombo, as well as documents present in works on the subject. The analysis of the sources and of the bibliography grounded the unfolding of the investigation that pointed the medieval origins of the regal messianismo until its manifestation in Portugal. It was also sought to explain the expectations of the glorious future incarnated in D. Manuel I; the Kabbalistic interpretations of the Messiah's coming and the forced baptism of the Jews that made them New Christians. The messianic fervor caused by the presence of the Jewish ambassador David Reubeni and the Bandarra Trovas that triggered the integration of royal and Jewish expectations are also contemplated in the course of this work. In sum, the contributions of this research point to the understanding of Messianism as part of a long political and religious tradition present in the Lusitanian kingdom
