A reforma da Universidade de Coimbra no reinado de D. João III na sua relação com a expansão da fé católica

Abstract

Resumo: A esta pesquisa interessa perceber as possíveis relações entre a reforma da Universidade de Coimbra no século XVI com os objetivos da Coroa portuguesa em propagar a fé católica para a extensão do seu Império. Foi nosso objetivo investigar a relação entre a reforma ocorrida na instituição, no reinado de D. João III (1521-1557), com os objetivos da Coroa na expansão da fé católica enquanto política de unificação dos domínios portugueses. Embora a ênfase da pesquisa esteja no século XVI, por meio da Longa Duração, buscamos a construção histórica do Padroado Régio e a religiosidade cristã portuguesa, para entender porque na décima sexta centúria o rei justifica a reforma da Universidade como um meio para propagar e conservar a fé católica em suas possessões de além-mar. O trabalho que apresentamos se fundamenta no enfoque cultural, na tentativa de compreender como a reforma da Universidade se vincula a cultura religiosa cristã portuguesa. Para compreender a reforma da Universidade, mediante esta abordagem cultural, foi preciso investigar as seguintes temáticas: cultura religiosa portuguesa; constituição do Padroado Régio; o papel da religiosidade cristã na cultura portuguesa; incorporação do conceito de corpo místico pela Coroa lusitana. Além disso, tratamos do papel da Universidade na sociedade portuguesa antes da reforma joanina, bem como as ações da Coroa para com a reforma do Estudo no século XVI, por meio da sistematização de três diretrizes de ações na análise documental: Reorganização Financeira, Reorganização Administrativa, Reorganização Pedagógica. Mediante esses três aspectos, dispomos algumas considerações sobre a formação dos letrados propiciada pela reforma da instituição. Com esta pesquisa foi possível perceber que a reforma efetivada na Universidade propiciou a Coroa lusitana mais uma ferramenta para garantir a formação dos letrados visando à propagação da fé para a extensão do Império lusitano. A reforma da instituição, na sua relação com a propagação da fé católica, simboliza a conservação, manutenção e expansão de um modelo de sociedade, constituída e gerida pelo Padroado Régio, cuja cabeça é o rei que representava a vontade de Deus

Abstract: To this research matters realize the possible relations between the reform of the University of Coimbra in the 16th century with the goals of the Portuguese Crown in propagating the Catholic faith to the extent of your Empire. It was our goal to investigate the relationship between the reform occurred in the institution, in the reign of D. João III (1521-1557), with the objectives of the Crown in the expansion of the Catholic faith while unification policy of the Portuguese domains. Although the emphasis of the research is in the 16th century, through the Long Duration, we seek the building of Royal Patronage and the Portuguese Christian Religiosity to understand why in the sixteenth century the King justifies the University reform as a means to propagate and maintain the Catholic faith in their possessions of overseas. The work we present is based on the cultural approach, in trying to understand how the reform of University links to Christian religious Portuguese culture. To understand the reform of the University through this cultural approach was necessary to investigate the following themes: Portuguese religious culture; Constitution of the Royal Padroado; the role of Christian religiosity in Portuguese culture; incorporation of the concept of mystical body the Lusitanian Crown. In addition, the role of the University in Portuguese society before the johannite reform, as well as the actions of the Crown for the reform of Study in the 16th century, through the systematization of three actions guidelines on document analysis: Financial Reorganization, Administrative Reorganization, Pedagogical Reorganization. Through these three aspects, we have some considerations on the training provided by the reform of the institution of learning. With this research it was possible to notice that the reform carried out in the University provided the Lusitanian Crown another tool to ensure the formation of the literati for the propagation of the faith for the extension of the Portuguese Empire. The reform of the institution, in its relation to the propagation of the Catholic faith, symbolizes the conservation, maintenance and expansion of a model of society, constituted and managed by the Regal Padroado, whose head is the king that represented the will of God
