fatores influenciadores no IDE.
testar as hipóteses do estudo.
and Development (OECD).
ABSTRACT: The role of cultural values in the decision on foreign direct investment (FDI) has been studied recently in the international business literature, being one of the factors influencing on FDI. Cultural distance measures the similarity or difference on cultural values between two countries, but empirical evidences have been found conflicting on the relationship between the cultural distance and the FDI. However, the general objective is to describe what extent similarities between cultural values influence the stock of foreign direct investment between countries, using the quantitative methodology and using the Multiple Regression Quadratic Assignment Procedure (MRQAP) to test the study’s hypotheses. It was used secondary data from the indexes of the six dimensions of cultural values researched by Hofstede, Hofstede and Minkov, and secondary data from FDI, such as: International Trade Center (ITC) and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The unit of analysis is the dyads between countries, composed of 45 countries that have data on the indices of the dimensions of cultural values, FDI, geographic, economic, political, legal and cultural data. This research contributes to international business studies due to the fact: (1) that many studies do not consider the six dimensions of Geert Hofstede’s cultural values and (2) relates and justifies cultural values as influencers on the FDI. As a result, the MRQAP regression test showed that there are several factors influencing the stock of FDI between countries, both in the geographic, economic, political, legal, cultural and, specifically, cultural values, resulting in 17 variables with significance on the last tested model (9). When using the MRQAP method, which is little used in the literature regarding the analysis of FDI and inserting others influencing factors, also few studied, it was found that the results are significant, such as the similarity of the same religion between countries. Therefore, the study advances the theoretical contribution in the presentation of these results as influencing factors on the FDI and that can eventually be used by organizations to help in future decisions to open the subsidiary in a new country. |
