Fragmentos da dor : a memória e o pós-guerra japonês a partir do filme Rapsódia em agosto (1991)

Abstract

A presente pesquisa aborda os conflitos de memória e narrativa presentes no filme Rapsódia em agosto (1991), de Akira Kurosawa. Nesta pesquisa, insere-se a busca por uma "memória de dor" japonesa relativa à Segunda Guerra Mundial e aos bombardeios atômicos de Hiroshima e Nagasaki. Para atingir tal objetivo parte-se de três pontos: a) a ilustração da construção da memória do pós-guerra; b) os fatores coercitivos que soterraram a memória de dor japonesa no pós-guerra; c) os fatores culturais que catalisaram os processos de formação e esquecimento da memória japonesa no Japão. Cada objetivo central da dissertação se desdobra a partir de outros menores que visam servir de base para a análise cinematográfica, tais como desvendar o "Aqui" e "Agora" da cultura nipônica, como a cultura da honra se desfaz no pós-guerra, seguida de como o filme "Rapsódia em Agosto" representa essa memória do pós-guerra. Por fim, através da conceituação e análise cinematográfica proposta, a pesquisa pretende refletir sobre o conflito de memórias e o "esquecimento" da memória de dor japonesa no pós-guerra.

The present dissertation deals with the conflicts of memory and narratives on the movie Rhapsody in August (1991), from Akira Kurosawa. Its main purpose is to understand the Japanese "memory of pain" after the Second World War and the dropping of atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki In order to achieve this goal, the dissertation is divided in three main points: a) the construction of the war memory in Japan after the defeat; b) the external factors that were important in the building of such memory; c) the cultural factors that catalyzed the formation and "forgetfulness" on Japan's memory. Each main point is divided, in turn, in minor ones: I) understand the construction of the Japanese "culture of honor" and its downfall on the afterwar; II) the effects of the United States occupation on Japan (1945-1952); III) the concepts of "Here" and "Now" on the Japanese culture and how they interfere on the construction of the memory; IV) how the Rhapsody in August movie represents this "pain memory" on its narrative. Therefore, through the proposal of these concepts and the cinema analysis this work aims to analyze the "forgetfulness" and the memory conflicts on Japan after 1945.
