Abstract

A leitura é um dos elementos mais importantes no despertar do pensamento crítico. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o enredo de Fahrenheit 451 (livro e filme) em diferentes meios para aplicação à formação do leitor contemporâneo, de modo a compreender a função de outras práticas de leitura em uma sociedade a partir da adaptação cinematográfica. Além disso, estudar e comparar as ideologias pregadas poderá trazer uma compreensão maior da leitura a nível social, a ponto de estabelecer o que estamos repetindo e o que estamos mudando, bem como entender até que ponto uma sociedade tem sua própria opinião. A história em Fahrenheit 451, obra de Bradbury de 1953, trata de um mundo distópico no qual livros são banidos e literalmente queimados, pois entende-se que a literatura causa infelicidade e rebeldia. Os bombeiros são quem ateiam fogo a eles, numa total distorção do real. Neste romance, há a primazia da alienação do ser humano em detrimento do pensamento, o que transforma o indivíduo em um ser cada vez mais apático face às relações sociais. O texto de partida é o livro de Ray Bradbury, porém atingiu seu real sucesso com o filme de François Truffaut (1966). A relação cinema-literatura pode ser explorada a partir das teorias da adaptação difundidas por Linda Hutcheon (2011), Thais Diniz (2005) e Robert Stam (2000, 2003, 2006, 2008), das ideias disseminadas por estudiosos das novas tecnologias, como Henry Jenkins (2009) e estudos a respeito da ideologia, realizados por Michel Foucault (1972, 1984, 1996) e Mikhail Bakhtin (1997)

Reading is one of the fundamental elements in eliciting critical thought. Thus, this work aims at analysing the plot of Fahrenheit 451 (book and film) in different means to apply in the formation of the contemporary reader, in order to comprehend the role of different practices of reading in a society as from the film adaptation. Furthermore, studying and comparing the diffused ideologies may bring up a greater understanding of reading on a social level, to the point of establishing what we have been repeating and what we have been changing, as well as to comprehend to what extent a society has its own opinion. The story of Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury's work released in 1953, is a dystopia in which books are banned and literally burned, since people understand that literature causes unhappiness. The ones who set fire to them are the firemen, what represent a total distortion of reality. In this futuristic novel, there is the primacy of the human being's alienation and the detriment of thinking, what makes the individual more and more indifferent to social relations. The source text comes from the book by Ray Bradbury, but it reached its real success with Truffaut's film (1966). The relationship between cinema and literature can be exploited from the theories of adaptation disseminated by Linda Hutcheon (2011), Thais Diniz (2005) and Robert Stam (2000, 2003, 2006, 2008), the ideas diffused by researchers of new technologies, such as Henry Jenkins (2009), and studies concerning ideology, carried out by Michel Foucault (1972, 1984, 1996) and Mikhail Bakhtin (1997)
