Subalternos na literatura do século I d.C. um estudo a partir do Satyricon de Petrônio

Abstract

RESUMO: Nossa pesquisa visa compreender como os grupos subalternos foram representados na literatura do século I d. C., a partir do estudo e análise do romance Satyricon de Petrônio. A partir da análise da obra, observamos que as fontes literárias analisadas partiam sempre de uma noção aristocrática, resultando em um apagamento ou tipificação de personagens oriundas de um contexto de subalternidade. Nessa perspectiva, esta pesquisa buscou se debruçar sobre o contexto histórico e literário que atravessaram a obra, visando conhecer a organização social romana à época de Petrônio para uma aproximação do cotidiano dos habitantes do Império e, assim, principiarmos uma discussão sobre a subalternidade e a sua representação em espaços privilegiados, como o literário. A partir dessas novas leituras e análises, identificamos na obra um retrato mais verista e diverso do cotidiano dos subalternos ainda que, sob preocupações filosóficas e moralistas próprias de um escritor da elite. Como considerações finais, essa investigação sobre a representação dos subalternos na literatura, evidenciou mecanismos utilizados que contribuíram para o apagamento ou para a criação de estigmas preconceituosos na representação dos subalternos nas narrativas, nas quais o protagonismo e todas as motivações heroicas parecem ser inerentes às camadas dominantes. Enfatizamos a importância da pesquisa, uma vez que lança um olhar para aqueles que sempre estiveram ali, agindo, mobilizando e construindo uma sociedade que, pelo viés elitista, não os considerava na narrativa literária. Os subalternos, representados nas personagens objetos de análise, suas vidas e vozes há muito tempo silenciadas, urgem por falar e, sem dúvida, é preciso que resgates como estes sejam feitos a fim de conhecê-los nos termos da vida que levaram

ABSTRACT: Our research aims to understand how subordinate groups were represented in the literature of the 1st century A.D., from the study and analysis of the novel Satyricon by Petronius. From the analysis of the work, we observed that the analyzed literary sources always started from an aristocratic notion, resulting in an erasure or typification of characters coming from a context of subalternity. From this perspective, this research sought to look into the historical and literary context that crossed the work, aiming to know the Roman social organization at the time of Petronio for an approximation of the daily life of the inhabitants of the Empire and, thus, to start a discussion about the subalternity and the its representation in privileged spaces, such as the literary. Based on these new readings and analyses, we identified in the work a more truthful and diverse portrait of the daily life of subalterns, albeit under philosophical and moralistic concerns typical of an elite writer. As final considerations, this investigation into the representation of subalterns in literature, showed mechanisms used that contributed to the erasure or creation of prejudiced stigmas in the representation of subalterns in narratives, in which the protagonism and all heroic motivations seem to be inherent to the layers dominant. We emphasize the importance of the research, since it takes a look at those who were always there, acting, mobilizing and building a society that, due to the elitist bias, did not consider them in the literary narrative.
